Cardboard glasses

How to make anaglyph cardboard glasses with your own hands

If you want to watch 3D anaglyph pictures or videos, but you don't have your glasses handy, don't worry! You can make such glasses at home - from improvised materials. Neither soldering nor 3D-printer will be needed. Just a little care, patience and a good mood 😊

What you'll need:

  1. Cardboard - you can take cardboard from a box, a thick notebook cover, or even cereal
  2. Transparent film or plastic - for example, cookie wrappers, a folder cover, a transparent file
  3. Colors or markers: red and blue (or cyan)
  4. Scissors (and preferably a box cutter, if desired)
  5. PVA glue or glue gun (if available)
  6. Glasses template (you can draw it yourself or download it - below)
  7. .

Step 1: Find or draw a template

If you don't want to draw, here sample template. Print it out on paper and cut it out. Or just draw glasses from memory: like sunglasses, but with square "glasses".

Step 2: Cut out the glasses

Transfer the template to cardboard and carefully cut out with scissors. Don't forget the slits for the "glasses" and the ears - this is how the glasses will be held without hands.

Step 3: Make the "panes."

Cut out two small pieces of transparent film - about 3×3 cm each. Now paint one with red paint or marker, and the other with blue (blue). Let them dry well.

It's important: paint evenly, without streaks or streaks. The cleaner the "glass" - the better the 3D effect will be!

Step 4: Insert the "panes."

Glue the painted films to the inside of the glasses:

  1. Left eye - red film
  2. Right eye - blue/blue

You can use scotch tape or glue. The main thing is to make sure that it stays firmly in place and does not fall off the first time you tilt your head 😄

Step 5. Try it on and test it out!

Put on your glasses, open any anaglyph picture or video and enjoy the depth effect! If done correctly, objects on the screen will "pop out" or go deep.

Tips for Improvement:

  1. If the paint is too thick and you can't see anything, try painting a thinner layer or diluting it with water
  2. In place of paint you can use colored cellophane wrappers (for example, from candy)
  3. .
  4. If cardboard is inconvenient, make a "frame" out of heavy paper and glue it to old glasses without lenses
  5. .

That's it!

Now you can have your own anaglyph glasses and immerse yourself in the 3D world without spending a fortune. Make them with your friends, add drawings on the frame, make unusual shapes - be creative!

3D is easy. The main thing is fantasy. 😉
